The evolution of Smart Grid embraces the convergence of legacy utility regional power control & management systems, the integration of distributed power grids within that regional control & management system for more agile power deployment, the incorporation of distributed energy storage systems to ensure predictable and robust grid capacity at local problem points, and the overall integration of the regional systems with the national grid for the more flexible and responsive power flow control delivered with enhanced cyber security. Initiative objectives include:
- Modernization of the regional distribution power grids, enabling optimized power generation mapped to end-user power demand requirements, at an optimized cost profile for all parties.
- Evolution of distributed power generation methodologies, coupled with an increasing focus on intelligent power demand response control & management systems.
- Build out of the national transmission power grid topology, which includes that of bussed versus hub and spoke versus islanded power distribution topographies, as to how they can be effectively integrated together for an agile yet robust nationally distributed architecture, including the methodologies of how regional utilities are able to optimizee the use of SmartGrid technologies within their system.
