April 24, 2007 - Media Alert: M&I Electric Answers Rig Power System Reliability

M&I Electric:

  • What are Variable Frequency AC Drives (VFD)? How are they used offshore?
  • How can emerging trends with VFDs enable offshore operators to run reliable, high performing operations?
  • What challenges face the industry and how can these be addressed to help operators catch up to more sophisticated technological requirements for system interfaces?
  • What cost efficiencies can be gained from the use of Variable Frequency AC Drives versus conventional methods?

WHAT:

M&I Electric, an electric products and services company that provides power distribution and control solutions for land and offshore drilling companies, will host a media briefing at the 2007 Offshore Technology Conference.

WHO:

The panel will feature Art Dauber, M&I Electric president and CEO; Dale Reeder, M&I Electric vice president - marine marketing; Bill Stroshein, Iron Derrickman director; and Rob Fenton, Eaton global product line manager for adjustable frequency drives.

WHEN:

11 a.m. - Tuesday, May 1, 2007

WHERE:

Press Room D1 of Reliant Center

WHY:

As the offshore industry implements new and groundbreaking technologies, traditional power distribution systems are not sophisticated enough to allow for efficient operations and equipment interfaces. M&I Electric will discuss how AC VFD technology can optimize drilling operations and will present best practices that should be assessed to get the most from an independent power management system. Iron Derrickman, along with M&I Electric's technology partner Eaton Corporation, will discuss the uses of AC VFDs and its benefits for drilling and offshore applications. A panel Q&A session will follow the presentation and one-on-one interviews with panelists are available by request.

VISUALS:

Color slides will be used to support the discussion. Media will receive a comprehensive press kit at the conference and digital files upon request.
