Management Team

Charles Dauber, Charles Dauber, age 43, is the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Dauber joined the executive team at American Electric Technologies, Inc. in April 2007 and was named CEO of the company in August 2009. Dauber has more than 20 years of executive management, operations, marketing, and sales management experience. Prior to joining the company, he served as the president and CEO of Nevis Networks, a venture capital-backed start-up company in Silicon Valley. Prior to Nevis, Dauber held multiple executive roles at Blue Coat Systems (NASDAQ: BCSI) including vice president of marketing and product management. At Blue Coat, Dauber was instrumental in the successful turn-around of the company, including the strategic company re-positioning and re-launch, resulting in $150 million in annual new revenues and a 2,000 percent increase in the company’s market capitalization. Dauber previously was the CEO of a broadband services start-up and served in management roles with Copper Mountain Networks and Teradyne in the US and in Asia Pacific, where he lived for several years. Dauber earned a bachelor of business administration with concentrations in electrical engineering and marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. Dauber previously served as a Director of M&I Electric from 1993 to 1995.

Neal T. Hare, age 62, is a Senior Vice President and is the Chief Technology and Manufacturing Officer of AETI and has been with the company since January 1992. He most recently served as the senior vice president and chief operating officer of the Technical Products and Services segment and has been responsible for much of the design and manufacturing of AETI’s products during his tenure with the company. Mr. Hare's service in the energy industry spans almost 40 years and he is one of the world’s leading experts of electrical drive equipment and power control systems for both land and offshore drilling and marine applications. His prior experience includes 10 years as one of the principals and vice president of operations at Ross Hill Controls (DC Oilfield Drives), which was acquired by National Oilwell Varco, and 10 years as vice president of operations at Powell Electrical Manufacturing (Switchgear and Controls). Mr. Hare has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University at Long Beach. His post-graduate work at Rice University, Houston included business and economics.

James J Steffek, age 58, is a Senior Vice President and President of M&I Electric’s Technical Products’ business as well as responsible for M&I’s overall sales efforts. He has been employed by the company since September 1973 with initial responsibilities including project management, engineering, and sales. Since 1980 he has served as Senior Vice president with areas of responsibility included operations, sales, marketing and remote operations in Singapore and Mississippi. Prior to joining M&I, he worked for Continental Controls Corp. as a project engineer. Mr. Steffek holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston.

Timothy C. Adams, age 57, is the President of the American Access Technologies business and a Vice President and served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company from September 2006 until the acquisition of M&I in May 2007 when he assumed his present role. He joined American Access as Vice President—Sales and Marketing effective January 1, 2005. He was responsible for directing sales and marketing for both the patented zone cabling/wireless division and the contract manufacturing division of American Access. He brings over thirty years of experience in sales, marketing, engineering and manufacturing to American Access. From 1991 to 2004 he was with Metcam, Inc., where he was director of sales. Prior to Metcam, he spent over three years at Belcan Corporation and over three years at Canron Industries, Inc. Prior to that, he was involved in product development and in manufacturing. He earned an M.B.A. from Xavier University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.

Frances P. Hawes is a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AETI. Ms. Powell Hawes served as Interim CFO for Sterling Chemicals, Inc. from 2009 to 2010 and also served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of NCI Building Systems, Inc. (NYSE: NCS), a nonresidential metal building manufacturer with revenues of $1.6 billion, from 2005 to  2008.  From 2003 to 2005, she served as a financial advisor to London Merchant Securities PLC, a real estate and investment company. Ms. Powell Hawes served until 2001 as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in NYSE-traded Grant Prideco, Inc., a manufacturer of engineered tubular products for the energy industry.  In 2000, she played a major role in Grant Prideco’s 100% public spin-off from Weatherford International, Inc.  Prior to the spin-off, she was Vice President, Accounting and Chief Accounting Officer of Weatherford, having advanced through a number of positions of increasing responsibility at Weatherford since joining the company in 1986.  Ms. Powell Hawes currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Express Energy Services, LLC, an oilfield services company.  Ms. Powell Hawes is a CPA and a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and a member of the Houston chapter’s board of directors for the Financial Executive Institute.  She also serves on the Steering Committee for the United Way of Greater Houston Women’s Initiative and the SBISD Academy of Finance Board.
