Biomass & Geothermal
While relatively new to the USA, both biomass and geothermal have been around for many years in Europe. Of the two, biomass is best positioned for growth in the USA, particularly with respect to methane reclamation from landfills and its use as a fuel in conventional fired power plants. Most of the issues with this technology is the purification of the methane into a form pure enough to been burned without carbon emission, which has mostly been accomplished. Another source of biomass fuel is the waste products from the paper industry, pulp material, resulting for the processing of trees into paper, and is widely available in North America. Geothermal, being based on steam turbine technology, also produces no carbon emissions. However, its use in the USA is constrained to the northwest USA, where the potential of thermal heat between continental plates is the highest.
AETI, along with its operations M&I Electric, is one of the few power infrastructure providers able to provide certified IEC, UL or ANSI and if necessary CCC & GB custom power conversion, distribution and control equipment for the following biomass and geothermal market segments around the world.
- Electric Utilities
- Power Coops
AETI works with the biomass and geothermal markets in the following ways:
- Working directly with power generation utility engineers and system integrators to develop and implement custom bundled power distribution, power collection, substations, electrical yards and grid interconnection.
- Working directly with engineering procurement & construction firms to provide electrical oriented site audits, construction, installation, start-up and commissioning during the build of the power generation system.
- Working directly with utilities and electrical coops to provide site electrical maintenance, testing, auditing, repair and refurbishment services.
AETI has served the power generation energy industry for over 50 years. We enable utilities and site owners by providing power delivery equipment for the following types of projects:
